Competitive Program

ELITE TEAM:

Swimmers, 14 years and older, who have achieved Provincial to National swimming standards, as well as those swimmers who are capable of meeting the training requirements.  This group is comprised of the club's top performers.  Selection for the Elite Team is based on skill, speed, attitude, work ethic, and commitment to the full training and competition schedule.  Elite level swimmers are expected to model positive and respectful behaviour towards staff and all club members.  Training time will be adjusted when required to meet the needs of the individual or group.  Swimmers are expected to: arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before practice to install lane ropes, as required, and do activation exercises; participate in dry land conditioning sessions, and join the strength training program.  Swimmers are strongly encouraged to participate in special workshops and training camps.  Swimmers must meet the training and competition expectations in order to maintain a position in this group.  The goal for Elite Swimmers is to work towards elite levels of performance, such as podium performance at Provincial and Easter Canadian competitions and meet the qualification standards for Senior Nationals; earn a University scholarship.

SENIOR TEAM:

Swimmers, 13 to 18 years; who have achieved Regional swimming standards, as well as those swimmers who are capable of meeting the training requirements.  Selection for the Senior Team is based on skill, speed, attitude, work ethic, and commitment to the full training and competition schedule.  Senior level swimmers are expected to model positive & respectful behaviour towards staff and all club members. Training time will be adjusted when required to meet the needs of the individual or group.  Swimmers are expected to: arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before practice to install lane ropes, as required, and do activation exercises; participate in dry land conditioning sessions, & join the strength training program.  Swimmers are strongly encouraged to participate in special workshops and training camps.  Swimmers must meet the training & competition expectations in order to maintain a position in this group. The goal for Senior Swimmers is to work towards podium performance at Regional level competitions, achieve provincial standards, and promotion to the Elite Team.

ADVANCED TEAM:

Swimmers, 11 to 14 years and older, who have already attained or who demonstrate the capability to achieve Provincial level swimming. Selection for the Advanced Team is based on technical ability, speed, training ability and attitude. Swimmers are expected to: arrive 15 minutes before practice to do activation exercises and participate in dry land conditioning sessions. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to participate in special workshops and training camps.  Swimmers must meet the training & competition expectations in order to maintain a position in this group. The goal is to work towards Elite Team.

JUNIOR TEAM:

Swimmers, 9 - 12 years who have already attained or who demonstrate the capability to achieve Provincial level swimming.  Swimmers are selected based on a list of criteria, including technical ability, speed, training ability and attitude. Swimmers are expected to: arrive 15 minutes before practice do activation exercises, and; participate in dry land conditioning sessions.  Attendance is very important & swimmers are expected to participate in the recommended swim meets in order to maintain a position in this group.  The goal is to work towards the Advanced Team.

NOVICE TEAM:

Novice level swimmers ages 11 & under can continue to expect a strong emphasis on stroke and skill development/refinement, as well as “learning how to train”, and “learning how to race”. Swimmers will be selected for this group based on a list of criteria, including technical ability, speed, attitude & commitment. Swimmers are expected to attend the recommended swim meets. Swimmers are expected to arrive 15 minutes before practice to do activation exercises to prevent shoulder injuries.  Space is limited; swimmers will need to compete to gain & maintain a position in this group.  The goal is to work towards the Junior Team.

JR. DEVELOPMENT TEAM:

For swimmers 11 years of age & younger. The program further develops the skills required for competitive swimming.  Swimmers are expected to attend the recommended swim meets.  The goal for Swimmers is to work towards promotion to the Novice Team.

SR. DEVELOPMENT TEAM:

Swimmers, 12 – 18 years: This group is ideal for someone who would like to further develop their competitive swimming skills. Training format and stroke development will be similar to the Senior Team, but the intensity will be tailored to meet the needs of the swimmers in the group.  Intermediate team members can attend recommended meets. The goal of this group is to develop a life long enjoyment of swimming, to promote fitness and develop competitive swimming skills.

*Both teams are the same just different schedules.

Schedules

Our best effort is made to provide you with the most accurate information at the time of printing, however, schedules are subject to change. We reserve the right to cancel, amend, change, postpone or combine classes/practices that are listed on this website or in our brochure.

Special Training Camps, Christmas, March Break and Summer Camps are designed to complement a swimmers training. Swimmers are encouraged to attend these camps. There is an extra charge for these camps.

Cancelled Practices: There is no training during Christmas Holidays; March Break or Friday to Monday of Holiday weekends. There are also a number of pre-planned cancellations due to other activities in the facility. There will be no practices scheduled when swimmers are expected to be at a swim meet. This has been taken into consideration when fees are established.
